THE 2008 ISSA WINTER NATIONALS

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA – Tournament officials have planned a great senior event for October at a great location. The  world-class resort city of Virginia Beach recently completed a new 8-field state-of-the-art softball complex which will supplement other nearby quality fields to accommodate the Senior and Masters teams expected to participate come October 3-5. The ISSA has partnered with the local ASA Tidewater District to bring this event to the Fun City.Competition will be held for Senior women’s teams from 40 and Over to 65 and Over. All age classifications and skill level divisions will be included for the Senior men’s teams. Men’s Masters competition will be scheduled for 35 and Over, 40 and Over and 45 and Over. And a new division of play for ISSA will be a 35+ Coed Division. The Women, Coed and Masters divisions will begin on Saturday, seniors may start on Friday depending on the final number of entered teams. The Winter Nationals will permit players who are eligible for an age division in 2009 to compete in this October tournament. Teams can use this tournament to begin the process of putting their tournament team together for 2009, a concept that many senior teams find helpful. The Athletic Director for the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Department is the legendary Jay Smith. Jay was one of the all-time top rated slowpitch softball players in the Country and is pleased to invite his old friends and acquaintances to his “house,” the Princess Anne Athletic Complex. Plan now to attend this end of the year tournament at a great location. Additional tournament information is posted on the ISSA website at www.seniorsoftball.org.  Entries must be received by September 25.  Teams can fax their Entry Form to the ISSA Office at 703-361-0344.  Any questions, contact Greg Thomas at 703-368-1188.

Experience the Fun at Virginia Beach, on and off the field in October.

FROM  THE  DESK  OF  RB  THOMAS,  JR.

JUST A THOUGHT – As the 2008 senior Softball season is winding down, we will be assessing the year and planning our future direction.  Our mission is clear....to provide the best possible softball experience for our senior population.  Our strategic plan to accomplish our goals is a dynamic document designed to meet the needs of the greatest number of senior players.  What we know is that seniors want a competitive experience wherever they play, they expect quality facilities and a safe playing environment.  The ISSA is committed to these ends.

We have spent a great deal of time and energy this year developing the ISSA rating system so that teams playing in our tournaments have a level playing field.  We have partnered with the communities at the Roanoke Valley and Virginia Beach to bring to seniors some first class venues.  And we have began the development of local senior tournaments to provide teams a low cost alternative to play and prepare for Nationals.  And most have noted, we have a succession plan in place to insure that an experienced staff is in place now and into the future.  Thanks for supporting our events.
